Tracklist Comparison
Tracklist Comparison
Compare your saved tracklist against the latest Discogs data. This helps you recover missing tracks, fix errors, or update outdated information.
When to Use This
Use tracklist comparison when:
- Your tracklist seems incomplete
- Track titles look wrong
- You want to verify your data matches Discogs
- A release was updated on Discogs with corrections
Starting a Comparison
From the album editing window or detail flyout:
- Click Fetch Tracks from Discogs (or similar)
- DeepGrooves retrieves the current tracklist from Discogs
- Tracks are compared against your saved data
- Results display in a diff view
Understanding the Diff
The comparison shows each track with a color-coded status:
| Color | Status | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 🟢 Green | Added | Track exists in Discogs but not in your copy |
| 🔴 Red | Removed | Track exists in your copy but not in Discogs |
| 🟠 Amber | Modified | Track exists in both but details differ |
| ⚪ Gray | Unchanged | Track matches exactly |
Diff Details
Added Tracks (Green)
These tracks are on Discogs but missing from your saved data. Common reasons:
- Tracks weren't imported originally
- Bonus tracks or hidden tracks
- Data added to Discogs after your import
Removed Tracks (Red)
These tracks are in your saved data but not on Discogs. Common reasons:
- Track was removed from Discogs (rare)
- You added tracks manually
- Different pressing has different tracks
Modified Tracks (Amber)
These tracks exist in both but have differences:
- Title spelling changed
- Duration corrected
- Side/position updated
Click a modified track to see exactly what changed.
Summary Badges
At the top of the diff view, badges show totals:
- +N new — Tracks to be added
- −N removed — Tracks to be removed
- ~N changed — Tracks with modifications
If everything matches, you'll see "Tracklists are identical."
Selecting Changes
Check the box next to each change you want to apply. Options:
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| Select All | Apply all changes |
| Select None | Apply no changes |
| Additions Only | Only add new tracks (don't remove or modify) |
Use Additions Only when you want to recover missing tracks without affecting what you already have.
Applying Changes
Click Apply Selected Changes to update your tracklist:
- Checked additions are created
- Checked removals are deleted
- Checked modifications are updated
Changes save immediately.
Canceling
Click Cancel or close the diff view to exit without making changes. Your tracklist remains unchanged.
No Differences Found
If your tracklist matches Discogs exactly, you'll see a message: "Tracklists are identical. No changes needed."
Best Practices
- Review before applying — Look at what's changing before clicking Apply
- Use Additions Only — When you just want to fill gaps
- Check modified tracks — Make sure the Discogs version is actually better
Note on Different Pressings
Different pressings of the same album may have different tracklists:
- Bonus tracks on some editions
- Different track order
- Regional variations
The comparison uses your album's specific Discogs release ID, so it should match your pressing.
