Duplicate Review

Duplicate Review helps you spot records that may be repeated, related, or easy to confuse. It is intentionally cautious. DeepGrooves can point out patterns, but it cannot know whether you meant to own two copies, two pressings, or two versions of the same album.

For the current web release, duplicate review is a review-only workflow. It helps you inspect possible matches and open records for cleanup. It does not automatically merge, delete, or decide which copy is correct.

Where To Find It

Open Health.
Find the Duplicate Review card.
Review any groups shown under that card.
Open individual records to compare or edit details.

Duplicate review may also be mentioned from Health, import cleanup guidance, or manual-add duplicate warnings.

Why A Record Might Appear

DeepGrooves groups possible duplicate candidates using several clues.

Signal	What it means	What to check
Possible same source release	Two saved records point to the same source release ID	Are they two owned copies, or was one added by mistake?
Possible same barcode	Two records share a barcode	Compare pressing, country, year, label, and notes
Possible same catalog number	Label/catalog details look alike	Compare format, country, runouts, and release year

These are review cues, not verdicts. A group can be useful even when every record in it is intentional.

Reviewing A Group

Open each record in the group and compare the details that matter for your collection.

Good comparison points:

title and artist,
format,
country,
release year and original year,
label and catalog number,
source release ID, if available,
barcode, if available,
runout or matrix text,
condition and sleeve condition,
purchase source, purchase date, and notes,
folder and Vault location.

Common Outcomes

It is another owned copy

If you intentionally own two copies of the same pressing, keep both records. Add copy-specific notes, condition, purchase details, and Vault location so the records stay easy to tell apart.

It is a different pressing

If the records are different pressings, keep both and make the pressing identity clearer. Useful fields include label, catalog number, country, release year, vinyl color, edition flags, and runouts.

It is an accidental duplicate

If one record was added by mistake, open the record you do not want to keep and use the normal delete path for that record. Read the confirmation carefully before deleting. DeepGrooves does not merge duplicate records automatically in this release.

You are not sure yet

Leave the group alone or dismiss the related Health issue if it is not useful right now. You can always revisit the record later from Collection or Health.

Manual Add Warnings

Manual Add can also show a possible existing album/work match before saving.

Use the existing match when you are adding another copy or pressing of the same album/work. Create a separate record when the suggested match is genuinely different or not useful.

Why DeepGrooves Does Not Auto-Merge

Record collections are messy in a good way. Two rows that look alike can represent:

a play copy and a display copy,
a mono pressing and a stereo pressing,
a domestic pressing and an import,
a regular edition and a colored-vinyl edition,
an imported record plus a manually entered copy,
or a true accidental duplicate.

Because deleting or merging collector data can lose notes, value, runouts, purchase history, and storage details, DeepGrooves keeps duplicate review conservative for launch.

Troubleshooting

I see records that are not duplicates

That is expected. Treat the group as a prompt to compare details, not a claim that something is wrong.

I own multiple copies on purpose

Keep them. Add enough copy-specific detail that you can tell them apart later.

I expected a duplicate group but do not see one

Check whether the records have enough matching data. Add missing catalog numbers, barcode, source release IDs, runouts, country, or label information where you have it.

I want to combine two records

For now, choose the record you want to keep, copy over any important notes/details manually, then delete only the unwanted record after reviewing the confirmation.

I deleted the wrong record

Stop and do not continue editing. Use your exports/backups or database restore process if available. This is one reason duplicate review does not merge or delete automatically.
