Upgrade Watch

Upgrade Watch is for records you already own but would replace, improve, or buy again under the right conditions.

This is different from a normal wishlist item. A normal wishlist item means "I want this because I do not have it." An upgrade watch item means "I own a copy, but I am still hunting for a better or more specific one."

When to Use Upgrade Watch

Use Upgrade Watch when your owned copy is not the final copy you want.

Common reasons:

Your current copy has noisy media, a damaged sleeve, or missing inserts.
You want an original pressing instead of a reissue.
You want a specific country, label, catalog number, color, or format.
You want a mono/stereo variant or different mastering.
You want a backup copy of a record you play often.
You want one copy for listening and another for collecting.

Upgrade Watch keeps this honest: the record stays in Collection, but DeepGrooves also treats it as something you are hunting.

How It Appears in DeepGrooves

An upgrade watch item can appear in multiple places:

Place	What you should see
Collection	The owned copy remains part of your collection
Wishlist	The item appears as an upgrade target
Store Mode	A matching shop result can show upgrade context
Alerts	If enabled, alerts can watch for a better buying opportunity

The important rule: removing Upgrade Watch should not delete the owned record.

In card and list views, DeepGrooves may label these records as Owned upgrade watch or group them under Owned upgrades. That wording is intentional: it reminds you that the record is still in your Collection, even though it also appears in Wishlist-style hunting surfaces.

Marking an Owned Item for Upgrade

Open the owned record from Collection.
Open the wishlist, target, or upgrade action.
Choose the owned copy to watch if you have multiple copies.
Set the upgrade target details.
Save.

If you have multiple copies of the same release, choose the source copy carefully. The upgrade note should make it clear which copy you are trying to improve.

Setting Upgrade Targets

Upgrade targets use the same kind of fields as Wishlist targets, but the intent is slightly different.

Field	How to use it for upgrades
Priority	How actively you want to replace the current copy
Target price	The price that would make the upgrade feel worthwhile
Max price	Your ceiling for the better copy
Desired condition	The condition that would actually improve on your current copy
Notes	What must be better: pressing, sleeve, inserts, runouts, color, edition, or sound

Good notes matter. "Upgrade from VG to VG+ or better" is more useful than "better copy." "UK first press with clean sleeve" is more useful than "nice one."

Comparing Against Your Current Copy

Before buying an upgrade, compare:

Media condition.
Sleeve condition.
Pressing identity.
Runouts or matrix marks, if important.
Included inserts, poster, obi, or booklet.
Price against your target and max.
Whether the upgrade solves the reason you marked it.

If the new copy does not solve the problem, keep hunting.

Upgrade Watch in Wishlist

Upgrade Watch items can appear in Wishlist-style views so you can manage all hunts together.

Look for copy that explains it is an owned upgrade target, such as Owned upgrade watch. This should help you avoid thinking the item is unowned.

Upgrade Watch in Store Mode

Store Mode can surface upgrade context when you search or scan a record in a shop.

Use that context to decide whether the copy in your hand is genuinely better than what you already own.

Removing Upgrade Watch

Remove Upgrade Watch when:

You bought the better copy.
You no longer care about upgrading.
The target was created by mistake.
The owned copy is good enough now.

Removing Upgrade Watch should clear the upgrade target and related alert state. It should not delete the owned record from Collection.

Troubleshooting

The item appears in Wishlist, but I already own it

Check whether it is marked as Upgrade Watch. If it is, that is expected.

I removed Upgrade Watch and the album disappeared from Collection

That should not happen. Removing Upgrade Watch should only remove the hunting target. Report it as a bug if the owned record is deleted.

Store Mode says upgrade, but the shop copy is not better

Use your judgment. The upgrade label means you are watching the title or release family, not that every matching copy is worth buying.

I have several copies and picked the wrong source copy

Open the upgrade target, remove it if needed, then create a new upgrade target from the correct owned copy.

Alerts are not firing for my upgrade target

Check that the upgrade target has a usable threshold, the alert is watching, and the item has enough release identity for marketplace checks.
